Since I am undeclared, I will do research in the engineering field. I don’t have it completely narrowed down to a specific branch of engineering.

United Launch Alliance: I found an internship in the mechanical engineering field offered by a company called United Launch Alliance. The title of the internship is “Mechanical Engineering Internship”. The description of the internship goes as followed, “Interns will typically support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of engineering. Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the ULA community and with fellow interns.” It is located nationwide in the United States.

Since I am not majoring in mechanical engineering at the moment I would not be eligible. But, in the future if I major in that field I would be a good candidate. I have a great work ethic and work well with others. I am a fast learner and would be a good asset to their team.

Thermo Fisher Scientific: I found an internship in the electrical engineering field offered by a company called Thermo Fisher Scientific. The title of the internship is “Electrical Engineer Intern”. The description of the internship is, “The electrical engineering intern will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists designing high precision analog and low frequency (1–10 MHz) RF systems for medical devices and scientific instruments.” It is located in San José, CA.

Similar to the ULA internship, I am currently not eligible due to my current standings with my major. That being said, I would once again make a good future candidate. I think it is very important that we have plenty of working medical devices and machinery and would put my best efforts into creating those RF systems. Next semester I am taking a design class that is focused on engineering so I would do great with the designing of the RF systems.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power: I found an internship in the engineering field offered by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The title of the internship is “Student Engineer Program”. The description of the internship goes as followed, “The goal of the SEP is to provide college engineering students an experiential job training opportunity, including career mentoring, theoretical and technical instruction, and complete project-related, infrastructure work tasks. Student Engineers will be paired with LADWP engineers and work in technical teams within Water, Power, and Joint systems of the organization.”

This would be a great opportunity for me in the future. I meet all the requirements for this internship except for my major and year. The whole point of it is to give students and better idea of what it’s like to be an engineer and is meant for those who are not sure yet. Since I am so indecisive, this would help me make up my mind.

Kalyanmoy Deb: https://www.egr.msu.edu/people/profile/kdeb

Deb is an electrical and computer engineering professor at Michigan State University. He has a page on their website that lists a biography, his research area, awards, education and more. The entire page is very professional and showcases the highlights from his career. He also lists his contact information in order to make it easy for people to get in touch with with.

William Sanford “Bill” Nye: https://billnye.com/

Bill Nye is better known for being a scientist on the educational tv show “Bill Nye the Science Guy” but is also a mechanical engineer. While he mainly focuses on science he incorporates engineering into his show as well. On his website there are many graphics but still looks very professional and very well made. All the tabs and buttons are very clear and work to make his website as efficient as possible. All around it makes him appear very professional, organized, and put together.

Elon Musk: https://www.tesla.com/elon-musk

Elon Musk does not have his own personal website but has a page designated to him on his company website. It describes the achievements he has made and what he does to contribute to Tesla and SpaceX. His webpage is very wordy and not as concise as the other websites. That being said, it is still professional looking and highlights his intelligence and genius.

Based on my research, when it is time for me to create my own website I will have a better idea on what to include and how to organize it. I will display my specialties and positive qualities. Basically, I should add anything and everything that will make me look good. But it should be personalized to me so people also get an idea of who I am with the way that my website looks. I shouldn’t get carried away with graphics or pictures and keep it all very professional.
